An exhibition of the nominees for the Anatoly Zverev Prize has opened in Winzavod. Star guests were the first to appreciate the work of contemporary artists.

This year the AZ Museum (Anatoly Zverev Museum) celebrates the anniversary of its hero - in November the artist turns 90 years old. A large-scale art marathon is timed to this date, which began in early autumn and will last until the end of the year. According to the general opinion of the director general of the AZ Museum Natalia Opaleva and the art director and curator of the museum Polina Lobachevskaya, the anniversary of the recognized genius of the twentieth century is a reason to think about the future of art. That is why today the AZ Museum has relied on contemporary artists, whose creative potential and breadth of views are comparable to the Zverev energy and artistry.
The first in a series of high-profile events were two exhibition projects related to contemporary and most relevant art. So, after the exhibition "Who are the judges?" an exhibition of the nominees for the Anatoly Zverev Prize was opened at the Winery.
More than 2 thousand applications from 169 cities of Russia and 32 countries of the world were submitted for the competition. As a result of the vote of the Expert Council, a list of 50 artists was formed, whose works are now presented at the final exhibition of the Zverev Art Prize.
Marina Zhigalova, Eva Polna, Maria Belova, Ksenia Chilingarova, Tatiana Gevorkyan, Valeria Rodnyanskaya and others were among the first to appreciate the works of the artists. The singer Linda performed for the guests.

In her speech, Director General of the AZ Museum Natalia Opaleva thanked Winzavod, the Architectural Bureau of Petr Tolpin and the museum team for the inspiration and originality of solutions in the preparation of this unique exhibition. “The Expert Council has chosen the top 50. I appreciate this intuitive feeling, which is unusually close to the spirit of Zverev. Thank you for your choice, thanks to the artists, whom I sincerely wish good luck,”she said.
Art director of the museum Polina Lobechevskaya noted that for many years she personally knew Anatoly Zverev as a bright, cheerful, open and free person. And if he were here, in the space of the Zverev Art Prize exhibition, he would certainly find an artist to match himself.
Curators Antonio Geusa and Sergei Soloviev spoke about the true love of art, which was embodied in this project, about the importance of discussion, about meanings and images. And that this exhibition is about the independence of a real artist, because the award's motto is “Life is shackled - art is free”. On November 1, on Zverev's birthday, three main prizes will be awarded.
