It would seem that it could be easier than washing your hair, right? And we thought so until we talked and watched the video with stylists and trichologists and delved into the topic. We answer the most important questions: when, how long and how to wash your hair, which product to choose and whether it is worth buying a peeling for the scalp. Interesting? Then read it soon!
When should you wash your hair?
For some reason, it is believed that washing your hair every day is harmful. But in reality this is not so, because each person has a different type of scalp and you should not retrain yourself, otherwise it can lead to irritation, dandruff and hair loss. Answering the question of exactly when you need to wash your hair, let's say that when you feel heavy roots, the hair becomes greasy to the touch and looks greasy, perhaps even itching. If you have all these signs a day after washing, then it's time to wash them (and, possibly, look for a new shampoo). But tolerating this for several days and masking the contamination with dry shampoo is not the best option.
The choice of means for washing: sulfate and sulfate-free shampoos, kovosh
The beauty industry does not stand still and creates a huge number of formulas for any scalp. Yes, remember: we select shampoos not for the length of the hair, but for your type of scalp. If the strands themselves are dry, and the skin is oily, then the shampoo should not be nutritious, but cleansing and sebum-regulating.
Let's note right away that no one can tell you which shampoo is right for you and which one is not. In this case, only trial and error selection works. However, there are basic rules. Let's start in order.
- Sulfate shampoo
This is a shampoo, where in the first positions of the composition there are components ending in Sulfate / Sulfonate. Such substances are considered to be rather harsh surfactants. What does it mean? They can dry out lengths, tangle strands and cleanse the scalp too much, causing it to produce excess sebum (essentially fat). Typically, these shampoos are recommended for girls with oily scalp and straight hair, and for curly girls - as a deep cleansing. Are they bad? No, absolutely not. You just need to listen to your feelings and not be afraid to change care.
- Sulfate free shampoo
There are other ingredients in these shampoos that cleanse the scalp and make it softer than sulfate ones. Many girls note that with the transition to sulfate-free shampoo, they wash their hair less often, since the skin does not produce sebum as a protective reaction, as it did before with sulfates. What to look for in the list of ingredients to understand what sulfate-free shampoo is in front of you: Decyl glucoside, Lauryl glucoside, Coco glucoside, Cocoyl glutamate, Lauroyl glutamate, Sarcosinate, Isethionate and others.
From the pros - the strands from them really do not dry, the fluff does not appear during the day, the staining is washed off more slowly. Who can use this shampoo? Everyone, but girls with oily scalp (as a rule, their facial skin is also oily) should be careful, as they may lack cleansing from it. In this case, it is better to return to the sulfate care you like.
- Kovosh, or cleansing conditioner
Many people believe that any conditioner is suitable for covashing, but this is not so - you need a special one, or at least one where it is indicated on the package that it can also wash the scalp. What's the difference, you ask? Formulated with a specially formulated for coaching, the cleansing ingredients wash away styling, dirt and sebum. It is ideal for those with dry and / or sensitive scalp, but it can also work for people with normal scalp.
Special gadgets for cleansing
Few people know, but sulfate-free shampoos and ladles need to be massaged for a long time and thoroughly, unlike sulfate shampoos (there is still a "chemical" cleansing!). And so that the fingers do not get tired, and the cleansing is good, they came up with massagers for the scalp.Choose “appliances” with silicone bristles so as not to harm yourself. For the lazy, like us, there are battery-powered options, and there are the usual ones without them. We usually count 5-6 minutes on the timer and wash off the product after the call. Note that it is necessary to wash off the products for quite a long time - at least a couple of minutes, and it is even better with a massager. Trust me, you will notice the difference: your hair stays clean a little longer and starts growing faster by stimulating blood circulation. Plus, it will save you from the so-called build-up, that is, oversaturation of hair with styling and care products, which can lead to dryness, brittleness and loss of strands.
How many times should you wash your hair
Again, start from your feelings. If you use a lot of styling and dry shampoo, for example, it's best to wash your scalp twice. In this, the opinions of our experts agreed. If you always use sulfate shampoos and do not lean on gels and leave-in creams, then sometimes you can rinse your head once.
And just in case, we remind you that you do not need to apply shampoo separately for the length of the hair, otherwise you will simply dry it. To wash off the funds and dirt from it, only the resulting foam is enough.
Scrub for scalp
A separate category of products that are not often found in stores. It is necessary for those who are fond of styling in order to surely cleanse the scalp of accumulated sebum, dust and residues of products, and for those who have oily scalp. Other types of skin and hair can optionally introduce scrubs and peels into the routine. The best option is to use them every two weeks / month, depending on your skin condition. The advantages of these funds: a) they remove dead skin cells; b) remove the balance of funds; c) refresh; d) the distribution of the scrub by means of massage stimulates hair growth.
The main thing in scalp care is to listen to your feelings, because besides you, no one knows what is best for you.
