How to prevent complications from "home" injections and why beauticians without a license harm the entire industry - in this material.

Cosmopolitan is convinced that beauty must be safe and cosmetic services must be of high quality. That is why we are joining forces with Merz Aesthetics - the world leader in aesthetic cosmetology - and launching the Responsible Cosmetology project, which is dedicated to the care of health and appearance, as well as partnerships between doctors and patients. Together with Merz Aesthetics, we will talk with leading experts in the beauty industry and touch on the most pressing topics: how to choose a clinic and a specialist, which methods are the safest, and why you should not contact “homeworkers”. And, of course, we will tell you about clinics that you can trust and whose approach meets the principles of our project.
Today we will discuss the legal aspects of the beauty business and "gray" cosmetologists, and Vadim Cherkashenin will help us to understand all the intricacies

Are you ready to change your view on the already familiar procedures and get answers to controversial questions? Then read on soon!

Choose wisely
Let's say you finally decided on contour plastics or mesotherapy. The next step is choosing a beautician. And here, many make the main mistake: they prefer not security, but a low price. Alas, the pandemic only exacerbated the situation: while the clinics were closed, the "home masters" were actively accepting. “Honest, responsible clinics rent premises, pay taxes, hire good expensive specialists and train them, buy certified drugs and dispose of them according to requirements, carry out covid prevention measures, and so on - this adds up to the price of the service,” explains lawyer Vadim Cherkashenin. “Home professionals or those who rent a small office save on all of the above.” Let's face it: no one is going to work at a loss. Whereas a suspiciously low price “fit” high-quality hygiene, expensive education and an original drug that you can be sure of? True, no way. What is the risk of turning to a "gray" cosmetologist?

Gray area
Let's figure out who the "gray" cosmetologist is. First of all, this is a specialist with little or no higher medical education and license, who works in unacceptable conditions and does not follow safety procedures. The consequences of going to such a cosmetologist can be deplorable: unlike specialists in a licensed clinic, he does not collect anamnesis before the procedure, does not specify the presence of contraindications, and simply cannot physically create suitable conditions for the procedure and ensure proper storage of drugs. By the way, unscrupulous cosmetologists save on the latter and inject counterfeit or expired formulations.
If suddenly something goes wrong during the procedure, only a certified doctor with experience will be able to provide first aid in a clinic. “In case of complications (and in medicine everything is possible), the issues are resolved with the patient before attracting a lawyer, because the activities of the clinic are strictly regulated by law and the clinic is responsible for the patient,” adds the lawyer. - But with "gray" specialists there are more complications and they are more difficult, it is more difficult for an injured patient to prove the guilt of the service provider - there is no contract, no informed consent, no check."
Protect yourself
Unfortunately, there are still gaps in the legislation that are used by unscrupulous specialists: drugs and medical products are available for purchase to individuals, the import of illegal drugs continues, not all patients ask the cosmetologist to show documents and sign an agreement.“An important step in the fight against the provision of medical services at home is the tightening of punishment,” comments Vadim Cherkashenin. - Now "homeworkers" can be fined under an administrative article of only 500 rubles."
Of course, measures are already being taken: a special unit has been created in the Investigative Committee to control the provision of medical services that do not meet the requirements of the law. But the patients themselves must become the first instance of control. Here is a lawyer's cheat sheet to be beautiful and healthy:
- Don't be tempted by low prices.
- Do not agree to provide services outside the medical facility.
- At the clinic, ask for a license to provide cosmetology services.
- Go to the clinic's website: there should be a section with information about specialists with their diplomas and certificates.
- Leave the clinic if it does not offer to sign an agreement, informed consent, consent to the processing of personal data, a treatment plan, and so on.
- Ask to open the drug in front of you, ask for certificates for it.

Why is it important?
Firstly, "gray" cosmetologists can not only harm the patient's appearance, but also significantly worsen his state of health, including psychological. Secondly, unscrupulous cosmetologists set the cost below the average market price in licensed clinics, so the latter lose income and can be closed - where then to come for quality services? Thirdly, the state does not receive taxes from such home entrepreneurs, losing the opportunity to invest in the development of the industry. “Impunity breeds irresponsibility, so only tougher punishment and joint actions will help improve the situation,” concludes lawyer Vadim Cherkashenin. - The leaders of the aesthetic cosmetology market, regulatory authorities and the media must come together and create a transparent, responsible environment for patients and clinics. Therefore, the launch of the National Project "Responsible Cosmetology" Cosmopolitan with the support of Merz Aethetics is an important step on this difficult path."
We hope that now it will be easier for you to navigate the vast market of aesthetic services and choose a reliable clinic. And in the next articles within the framework of the Responsible Beauty project, we will continue to discuss the topic of safe beauty from different angles - stay tuned!
